Going Home

It has been some time since I have posted much of anything. As much as I love being a teacher, one of the downsides is that time becomes a scarce and precious commodity from September to June. Having a family only adds to that.

I wish I could say that I was breaking my silence with a long and meticulously planned post. In reality, I have only one, short, simple thought: God is good.

We (and by we, I mean my little family) are gearing up for a big move again. It will be with a newborn, again. It will come with an abundance of complications because we weren’t planning on the move. But, Deus bonus est. God is good.

Two years and some months back, my wife and I formally entered the Catholic Church. As a Christian teacher, my faith was (and is) closely connected to my employment, for better or worse. Becoming Catholic meant I was shut out of the particular niche where I was most likely to obtain employment in the tough market for teaching jobs in my home province. Therefore, two years ago, we had to abandon family, friends, and my partially completed masters to move somewhere far away again or be without full time employment. Now, by the grace of God, we can return home much earlier than we anticipated.

In that sense, this feels like the conclusion to a particular chapter in our life and faith journeys; the resolution of a series of events and problems in a blessing that came unlooked for. The road ahead will still have challenges, but for now the only thought it my heart is gratitude. God is good.

Blessed Be Your name
When I’m found in the desert place
Though I walk through the wilderness
Blessed Be Your name

Blessed Be Your Name
In the land that is plentiful
Where Your streams of abundance flow
Blessed be Your name
Blessed Be Your Name” – Matt Redman
